Dental Insurance Information

Accepting Dental Insurance

Most dental insurance plans are accepted at our office. It is your responsibility to know your dental coverage, including its limitations and deductibles so that you can be prepared to pay your share on the day services are rendered.

Most dental plans allow Assignment of Benefits or Direct Billing. As a service to our patients, our office will submit dental claims to the insurance carrier. Our policy is to submit all insurance claims electronically on a daily basis. We offer electronic submission (EDI) to expedite the claim process. Any balance not paid by the insurance company is the responsibility of the patient. Payment is required at the time of service.

If EDI submissions returned as a claim acknowledgement only, our office will estimate your portion based on your dental coverage information. Most insurance companies take two to four weeks to return payment; if a credit balance results on your account, you will be notified and a refund will be sent to you, or you will have the option to keep your credit for future use.

Please note that it is very difficult to estimate how much exactly your insurance will pay; if it results in a balance owing to your account, we will send you the statement along with an attached EOB [Explanation of Benefits] from your insurance carrier, explaining the details of payment.

However, there are some dental plans that do not allow Direct Billing, or are Non-Assignment of Benefits. This means that they will only pay you, the patient, directly and not the dental office. If your plan is non-assignment, you must pay for your treatment in full, on the day of service. Your plan should pay you within two to three business days, either by direct deposit into your bank account or by cheque.

Predeterminations for Dental Insurance

When major treatment [i.e. bridges, crowns, dentures, veneers] is planned, we will send a pre-determination to the insurance carrier(s) involved. In some cases, the response is sent to the insured member within two to four weeks. Please notify us when you have received your pre-determination so that we can help you book the necessary appointments and expedite your treatment.
